Career in Forensic Accounting

Career Scope in Career in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Detection

What is Forensic Accounting ?

Forensic accounting is the process of examining financial records, transactions, and other evidence to identify fraud, financial irregularities, or disputes involving money.

It means using accounting, financial analysis, and investigative techniques to find out what happened to the money, identify suspicious activities, and gather evidence that can support an investigation or legal proceedings.

Forensic accounting is used in fraud investigations, employee misconduct cases, insurance claims, money laundering investigations, financial disputes, and litigation.

Unlike traditional accounting, which primarily focuses on recording and reporting financial transactions, forensic accounting focuses on investigating financial information to answer specific questions and establish facts.

Career Scope in Forensic Accounting

Forensic accounting is one of the fastest-growing finance specialisations in India, covering fraud investigation, forensic audits, dispute support and anti-money-laundering reviews.

The main employers are the Big Four, mid-tier and boutique firms, banks and NBFCs, law firms, and agencies like SFIO and CBI. The salary rises steeply with experience, reaching about ₹20-38 LPA at 5-10 years, with Delhi and Gurgaon paying the most. From year four, many specialise in areas like banking fraud, insurance investigation or digital forensics, and some move into independent consulting. With tighter regulation and rising financial-crime risk, demand for skilled forensic accountants looks set to keep growing opportunities.
